Army Sergeant Daniel McCall
Army Sergeant Daniel Lee McCall, 24, of Pace, Fla. was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga He died on October 30, 2007, from wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit near Salman Pak, Iraq, with small-arms fire and an improvised explosive device.
A talented athlete, SGT McCall graduated with honors from Pace High School in 2001. He played football and soccer, excelled in track and finished second in the 400-meter race at the Florida Class 3A state championships. SGT McCall enlisted in the Army in 2004, following the example of his grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran. He completed infantry, airborne, combat lifesaver, sniper and leadership training and underwent Special Forces training before joining the 3rd Infantry Division.
Brittnay McCall described her husband as her soul mate, with “the biggest brightest smile” and always a jokester. She remembered him as a hardworking and devoted husband who believed that being a soldier was the best thing that ever happened to him.
SGT McCall is survived by his wife, Brittnay.
