Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Brock Beery
Army Staff Sergeant Brock Beery, 30, of White House, Tenn., was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 123rd Armor Regiment, Kentucky National Guard, Bowling Green, Ky He was killed on March 23, 2006, near Al Habbaniyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated beside the armored truck he was driving, followed by enemy small-arms fire.
Originally from Warsaw, Indiana, SSG Brock joined the Indiana Army National Guard on February 23, 1993, while a 17-year-old junior at Tippecanoe Valley High School. After graduating in 1994, he completed infantry training at Fort Benning. He transferred to the Kentucky Army National Guard in 1997 and later became a full-time Guard employee. His overseas service included deployments to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, Bosnia and Iraq. He will be posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart.
“Brock was a loving husband, and a very devoted dad. He enjoyed his family, off road four wheeling adventures, collecting guns and hunting,” said his wife. “He was devoted in the business of taking care of his soldiers and meeting their needs.”
SSG Brock was survived by his wife and daughter.
