Army Sergeant Jaror C. Puello-Coronado, 36, of Pocono Summit, Pa, was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 310th Military Police Battalion, Uniondale, New York. He died July 13, 2003 at Camp Edson, Iraq. SGT Puello-Coronado was manning a traffic point when he was hit by a speeding, out-of-control dump truck and was pinned against a Humvee after he pushed another soldier out of its path.

Born in the Dominican Republic, his family moved with his family to Brooklyn, NY as a young boy. He moved his family to Pennsylvania following the 9/11 attacks, which they witnessed from their bedroom window. In civilian life, SGT Puello-Coronado worked as a security officer. He served either on active duty or in the Army Reserve for more than half his life and deployed to Iraq in April 2003. He was posthumously promoted from specialist to sergeant.

His sister remembered how deeply committed he was to military service: “He loved being a soldier. The only consolation we have is that he died doing something he loved.”

SGT Puello-Coronado was survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
