| Honoree's Story | Airman 1st Class Antoine J. Holt, 20, of Kennesaw, GA, was assigned to the 603rd Air Control Squadron at Aviano Air Base in Italy. While assigned to Iraq, he spent his days monitoring airspace activity. He died April 10, 2004, when his tent was hit during a mortar attack at Balad Air Field, Iraq. In December 2004, the base stadium at the Air Base was dedicated to A1C Holt and renamed Holt Memorial Stadium. A plaque at the stadium’s main entrance dedicates the facility to Airman Holt and all Airmen who have been killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 3000-seat stadium is used for special events.
A graduate of North Cobb High School, A1C Holt attended Georgia State University where he met his wife, Patricia. He joined the Air Force in July 2001
A1C Holt was remembered as a talented poet, a positive role model and a fierce competitor at everything from basketball to dominoes to video games.
“Antoine lived every day to try to do what’s right, regardless of the circumstance,” said his father, Michael Holt. “This is what made him our hero.”
He is survived by his wife Patricia, and daughter Carmen.
