Honoree's Story

Army Corporal Jeremy Loveless, 25, of Estacada, OR was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He was killed May 29, 2006. when his Stryker vehicle came under enemy small-arms fire during combat operations in Mosul, Iraq.

CPL Loveless graduated from Gresham High School in 1998. He joined the Army in 2004 to train as a medic and knew that this experience would serve him well when he again became a civilian and prepared to attend civilian paramedic school. As a medic, he was supposed to ride in the relative safety of his vehicle’s belly while on route to assist fallen soldiers, only leaving the vehicle when called upon to treat the injured but was often found manning the gunner position or one of the team’s most dangerous duties—forward lookout.

CPL Loveless was remembered by his colleagues as the epitome of a soldier – one who would go to any length to keep those fighting with him safe, who selflessly volunteered to take on the most difficult of tasks himself if it meant keeping his buddies alive.

CPL Loveless is survived by his wife, Melissa and daughter, Chloe.
