| Honoree's Story | Fireman Daniel Foley, 46, of West Nyack, NY, was a firefighter with Rescue 3 division of the New York Fire Department. He died February 22, 2020, of pancreatic cancer. It was determined that the cancer was directly related to his involvement with the clean-up following the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11.
From a very young age, Foley wanted to be a firefighter and following graduation, became a volunteer with West Nayck. He was a teacher and coach while waiting for a chance to join the New York Fire Department. That opportunity came in February 1999. He was assigned to Engine 68/Ladder 49. His brother, Tommy also worked for the FDNY – Rescue 3. They played football together on the FDNY football team. Tommy Foley tragically died on 9/11. Following in his brother’s footsteps, Daniel transferred to his unit and finished his career with Rescue 3.
During his career, Foley was cited eleven times for his lifesaving bravery.
He loved country music, hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family.
Firefighter Foley is survived by his wife, Carrie and five children: Erin, Kiera, Brianne, Kendall, and TJ.
