Honoree's Story

Firefighter Christopher Griffin was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Scranton Tech High School. He then went to work at the Chinchilla Hose Company of South Abington Township where he served as Fire Chief. At age 37, he moved to Virginia where he began working for the Norfolk Fire-Rescue as a career firefighter to continue his passion. He loved helping people and being able to give back to his community.

In 2020, Griffin discovered he had Glioblastoma brain cancer, which was determined to be a career-related cancer as result of breathing in smoke and inhaling toxins throughout his career as a firefighter. He passed away October 1, 2021.

Right up until the end, Griffin was still telling people that he just had to get over this brain cancer hurdle, and then he would be back to work at the fire house. Chris was a true fireman; his passion for the job was unmistakable He was always a jokester and loved to make people laugh. He put others first and always made sure others were taken care of.

Firefighter Griffin is survived by his wife, Aimee, and their son, David.
