| Honoree's Story | Army Specialist Joshua Bullis served in the 595th Sapper Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion out of White Sands, NM. On September 19, 2010, while on his first tour overseas in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, SPC Bullis stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which cost him both legs above the knees and his left arm above the elbow.
SPC Bullis spent seven days in a medically induced coma in Germany before returning stateside to begin his surgeries and stabilization. Once stable, he was transferred to Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA, where he spent the next nine months in rehabilitation.
In October of 2011, Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors named SPC Bullis as the second recipient of an accessible home. The home, completed in 2012 provided easy wheelchair access and various control capabilities right from his wheelchair.
In 2025, SPC Bullis opened AZ Arms Depot, an online gun store. He built it from the ground up – no storefront, no employees and no corporate backing – but rather the result of grit, perseverance and a mission to serve.
SPC Bullis currently lives in Surprise, AZ with his wife, Tory and two children, Carson and Ryan.
