Staff Sergeant Kevin Casey Roberts, 25, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  While serving during Operation Enduring Freedom, SSG Roberts was killed in the Sabari district of Afghanistan on May 7, 2008, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.

The events of September 11, 2001 influenced SSG Roberts' determination to defend the United States, which he proudly accomplished for 6 ½ years.   His love of duty and love of country were undeniable.  SSG Roberts was all military, he earned the respect of officers, fellow NCOs and soldiers alike. During his service, SSG Roberts was awarded numerous medals and ribbons. Among them are the National Defense Service medal, the Iraqi Campaign medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

A 2000 graduate of Farmington High School, SSG Roberts joined the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department and served until enlisting in the United States Army in 2001.  He loved his family, and it was no secret that his wife and two children were the brightest lights in his life.  SSG Roberts’ daughter remembers him fondly, with some of her favorite memories being fishing and going to Father/Daughter dances together.  She lovingly said, “He was my best friend! We did everything together and he was my hero every day of my life.”

SSG Roberts’ daughter is a Folds of Honor Scholarship recipient.
