Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeffrey L. Wiener, 32, of Louisville, Kentucky, was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. On May 7, 2005, while serving during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, PO2 Wiener died in a combat-related incident near a hospital in western Iraq.

PO2 Wiener was a graduate of Lynbrook Senior High School. As a paramedic in New York City, PO2 Wiener lost many friends and colleges during the September 11th terrorist attacks. The instructor of the class, an ex-RECON and Navy SEAL corpsman, was so impressed with PO2 Wiener that he offered him a job on the spot. PO2 Wiener was awarded the Purple Heart, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, among several others, for his service and sacrifice.

PO2 Wiener devoted his life to helping others, volunteering in numerous community related organizations and departments. He was a former EMT for the County of Nassau, New York, (where he earned the Red Cross Life Saving Award), the Jefferson County, Kentucky EMS Squad, and the Patchogue, New York EMS Squad.

One of PO2 Wieners’ daughters is a Folds of Honor Scholarship recipient.
