Soldier Honored: Christopher Pfeifer

2016-Christopher Pfeifer
Dates: September 25, 2007
Hometown: Nebraska
Branch of Service: Army
Rank: Private First Class

Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne brigade Combat Team, Schweinfurt, Germany, for his first duty station, Pfeifer deployed to Afghanistan a year later.

An avid hunter, fisherman and golfer back in the states, Pfeifer realized how much he enjoyed assisting those less fortunate than himself and soon volunteered to deliver school supplies and satellite radios to the villagers living near the US base in Kamu, Afghanistan.  On August 17, 2007, Pfeifer’s unit was overrun by insurgents using small-arms fire while conducting reconnaissance and security operations.

He was hit in the shoulder and was initially given a positive prognosis by the doctors at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he arrived for treatment after being stabilized in Germany.  Unfortunately, he took a sudden turn for the worse and died on September 25, 2007.

Pfeifer was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and other medals to honor his bravery.

PFC Pfeifer’s daughter is a Folds of Honor scholarship recipient.
