Patrolman Chase Maddox, 26, of Locust Grove, GA, was shot and killed while assisting two deputies from the Henry County Sheriff's Office serve a warrant at a home on St. Francis Court on February 9, 2018.
The deputies had gone to the home to arrest the subject for failing to appear in court on a traffic violation. The man refused to cooperate, so the deputies requested assistance from the Locust Grove Police Department.
Several minutes after Patrolman Maddox arrived at the scene, the officers attempted to take the man into custody. The subject opened fire on the officers, killing Patrolman Maddox and wounding both deputies before being shot and killed.
Once Officer Maddox entered the Police Academy, he knew he had found his calling. He started working at the department when he was 22 years old, and was the only officer Locust Grove had ever hired directly out of the Academy. He was “a smart young man,” and the Locust Grove Mayor said he was one of their best police officers.
Officer Maddox is survived by his wife Alex and sons Bradin and Bodie.
