Lance Corporal Dennis Veater, 20, of Jessup, PA., was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's Marine Wing Support Squadron 472, Marine Wing Support Group 47, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, at Wyoming, PA. He died March 9, 2007, while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq.

A 2004 graduate of Abington Heights High School, LCpl Veater attended Penn State Worthington-Scranton, studied criminal justice, then enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves. The youngest of six children, he was the only one to follow their father, retired Sgt. Maj. Donald G. Veater, into the Marines.

LCpl. Veater loved being in the spotlight, entertaining his family and friends by creating songs and dances, making faces and cracking jokes. He will be remembered for his good-hearted nature, eagerness to care for others and fun-loving attitude. “The words, ‘looking up to Dennis’ gave us a new meaning,” his twin brother said. “We will always be looking up.”

LCpl Veater was only two weeks from returning home. He had planned to marry his fiancé, Angeline in May. He is also survived by his son, Dominick.
