Army Staff Sergeant, Patrick Quinn 26, of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group based in Fort Carson, Colorado. He died October 13, 2013 of injuries caused by small arms fire in the Paktika province of Afghanistan.
SSG Quinn graduated from Solanco High School in 2005 and joined the Army in July 2006 as an infantryman. He was assigned to Fort Bliss, Texas and completed a yearlong combat tour to Iraq from September 2008 to August 2009. After his assignment at Fort Bliss, SSG Quinn volunteered for the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course. He graduated as a Green Beret in 2013. SSG Quinn was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medal.
Chris Durbin, who served with SSG Quinn, recalled the fallen staff sergeant as a “phenomenal soldier” who showed him the ropes when he arrived as his unit. “That kid knew his stuff,” said Durbin. “Of all the soldiers I’ve worked with, he was the most on top of his game and one of the smartest soldiers I’ve come across.”
He is survived by his wife, Erika and their three sons.
