Joey is from Paducah, Kentucky. His parents are Dr. Joseph and Rita Mayo. He is an economics major. In high school, Joey was Regional Player of the Year and Team MVP his senior year. He was a two-time Regional Team selection and Runner-up at the State Tournament. As a Lynx, he made Third Team All-American, First Team All-Conference, and Team MVP his sophomore year. As a freshman, he made Honorable Mention All-American, and Second Team All-Conference. Outside of golf, Joey is an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
