Sergeant First Class Randall R. Oler of Morristown, Tennessee, joined the Army in 1979. He was first assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment and completed tours with the 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as well as the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). He completed Civil Affairs training in 1995. Sergeant First Class Oler was deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort, and Operation Joint Endeavor. On April 15, 2004 SFC Oler was in a C-130 during a routine static line airborne operation. He collapsed and was pronounced dead at Womack Army Medical Center at the age of 43.
Sergeant First Class Oler is survived by his wife and six children as well as the legacy he built as the founder of Operation Toy Drop; a program that allows soldiers to donate new toys to needy children and earn different parachutist badges.
