Soldier Honored: Douglas M. Vose

Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Douglas M. Vose, 38, of Concrete, Washington, was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Stuttgart, Germany and served during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  On July 29, 2009, CWO2 Vose died of wounds sustained by intense direct small arms fire while deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan as a member of the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF).

After graduating from high school in 1988, CWO2 Vose joined the Army in April 1989. A decade later, he joined the Special Forces and began rising through the ranks.  CWO2 Vose was a technical expert, combat leader, trainer and advisor.  His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, and the Non-Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon

“The whole family is military, and that’s all Doug wanted to do. He was a soldier first,” said Vicki Frank, mother of Michael Frank, one of CWO2 Vose’s best friends.  “He was one of those dependable people. He was always there. He always worked hard,” said Michael Frank, of Seattle, who has known CWO2 Vose since grade school.

CWO2 Vose’s sons are Folds of Honor Scholarship recipients.
